Who is Asalif Belayneh?

Asalif Belayneh currently works as Associate Director for the Task Force for Global Health's CoVIP. His primary focus is coordinating technical support to low- and middle-income countries through the deployment of expertise from different disciplines, including field epidemiologists, data managers, and demand/Communication specialists, with the goal that countries improve their COVID-19 vaccination coverage to attain global vaccine rollout targets and strengthen their capacity for life course vaccination system.

He has been in public health for more than 25 years and gained experience as a health provider and technical expert in settings from health facilities, community, and sub-national levels to national and global level involvement. His topic areas of focus have been maternal and child health programs, immunization, disease surveillance and eradication, outbreak response preparedness, investigation and response, HIV/AIDS and TB prevention, care, and treatment programs.

In addition to his grassroots experience with government facilities and local NGOs, Asalif has worked with different national, international, and UN organizations, including Family Health International, FINTRCAT – USAID ATEP Ethiopia, PATH International, CDC STOP Program, WHO, the Gates Foundation, and, currently, the Task Force for Global Health.

His geographical coverage ranges from East Africa (Ethiopia and Somalia), South Asia (Pakistan), West Africa (Sierra Leone), and Currently in the US coordinating 15 low- and middle-income countries. He holds a master's degree in Public Health from Gondar University in Ethiopia.
