Task Force for Global Health experts participated in events focused on key global health challenges including antimicrobial resistance (AMR), hepatitis, health emergencies, and climate change and health during the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York from September 22 to September 27. Heads of state, policymakers, and leaders from business and civil society gathered for decisions centered on the theme “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations.”
The Task Force has consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, which enables The Task Force to participate in official UN convenings, in addition to the many side events organized by partners throughout UNGA week.
On September 23, The Task Force’s Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination hosted the Third Annual Meeting of the United Nations Group of Friends to Eliminate Hepatitis which highlighted health diplomacy and international collaborations for driving sustainable progress in the global fight against hepatitis.
Additionally, on September 23 The Task Force hosted a roundtable lunch discussion on the topic “Tapping 40 years of Global Health Partnerships to Tackle Emerging Challenges: Where Do We Go from Here?”. Continuing the celebration of the fortieth anniversary of The Task Force’s founding, leaders of 19 global health entities spanning our founding partners, UN agencies, multilateral partnerships, governments, advocacy groups, foundations, and the private sector gathered to discuss the key elements of successful global health partnerships and consider future directions.
