Task Force President Honored as ‘Georgia Giant in Public Health’

Task Force President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dave Ross, ScD, is among 15 public health champions who have been recognized as “Georgia Giants in Public Health” by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO).

Ross was honored at a June 15 event in Atlanta to mark ASTHO’s 75th anniversary. He was cited for his leadership that has “transformed global public health, saved countless lives, and improved the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities around the world.”

Ross helped pioneer the field of public health informatics, a discipline that focuses on using information to improve health outcomes. He has served as The Task Force’s president and CEO since 2016.

Other “Georgia Giants” named by ASTHO include Task Force founder Bill Foege, MD, Task Force board member James W. Curran, MD, Task Force emeritus board member David Satcher, MD, PhD, and Emory Vice President for Global Health Jeff Koplan, MD.

ASTHO is a national nonprofit organization that represents public health agencies in the United States. The Task Force’s Public Health Informatics Institute partners with ASTHO on creating and disseminating resources and tools for state health departments.
