A Digital Revolution: Updating Kenya’s View of Its Health Workforce
Until recently, health professional licensing and credentialing boards in Kenya had to search through floor-to-ceiling stacks of paper records to find health professionals registered in Kenya, taking sometimes months to find a single file. Due to this painstaking task, it was laborious for the Ministry of Health to identify where health professionals were deployed, what communities did not have enough health professionals deployed, and whether or not health professionals were keeping up with their credentials and certifications. That was the situation until our African Health Workforce Project helped spur a digital revolution among the health workforce in Kenya, creating a human resources information system (rHRIS) that established a real-time documentation of their workforce. Watch how this digital revolution has helped Kenyans have greater access to health services and access to better health.
