The Task Force program MedSurplus Alliance (MSA) enables organizations to ensure that medical products donated to help countries during a natural disaster are useful and usable. For instance, during the recent earthquake and volcanic eruption in Guatemala, MSA worked with partners to get respiratory masks and medical equipment to affected areas.
“Avoiding the second disaster is key,” said MSA Director Lori Warrens, referring to the tons of inappropriate medical supplies and equipment that block hospital corridors or patient rooms or litter the outskirts of villages.
In this video, Warrens talks about how MSA bridges the gap between the “donor’s desire to help and what recipients need,” and the importance of moving to a recipient-driven medical donation model.
