The Task Force has been involved in the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) for nearly 25 years, beginning with the Mectizan Donation Program and our partnership with Merck in 1987. Today, we have four programs in this sector, focused on protecting communities from lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, trachoma, and soil transmitted helminths. The programs focus on the treatment, prevention, and elimination of widespread and disabling tropical infectious diseases in poor communities throughout Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Our NTD work includes coordinating the distribution of donated medicines, operational research, as well as training and other technical support to recipient communities and volunteers.
