Why does the Task Force need a Capital Campaign?
In 2007, we had the opportunity to add new programs to the Task Force. The Task Force Executive Team weighed this decision carefully. New programs would mean increased demand for meeting space, offices, and a physical structure dedicated to our mission. New programs would also be important for our continued growth. Our rental space was already crowded, with staff dispersed on two floors of a government building and with limited meeting space. In Spring 2008, the Task Force moved to a new address, 325 Swanton Way in Decatur, Georgia. We purchased the building in mid-2007 and made significant renovations to accommodate the program needs of the organization. At the same time, we kicked off our first-ever Capital Campaign to raise funds for the renovations.
Program staff served on a planning committee to make decisions about the space and the needs for the new building. In selecting a new building and defining renovation goals we considered cost effectiveness offered by on-site meeting facilities and other needs such as workspace for our program interns.
While some projects are still underway or in the visionary stage, the building has been renovated with features and facilities to better suit our program needs. For example, the renovated building includes several green building features, training and meeting rooms, and floor plans comprised of “neighborhoods,” where program staff are located in a way that facilitates exchange and collaboration among programs with similar focus. Of course, the building is fully equipped with wireless access as well as teleconferencing and webinar facilities in two of our larger conference/training rooms.
To date, many of our partners and supporters have contributed to our Capital Campaign. We appreciate their generosity in supporting our renovated facilities and invite you to join the Campaign to create a first-class facility to house our Task Force programs.
