Global Health Challenges Explored at GA Bio Summit

ATLANTA - (November 1, 2010) At the Georgia Bio Summit, Task Force President and CEO Mark Rosenberg moderated an informative and interactive panel discussion featuring Dr. Michael Rosenblatt, Chief Medical Officer, Merck & Co; Dr. Vasant Narasimhan, Head of Vaccines North America, Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics; and Dr. Ricardo Azziz, President of Medical College of Georgia. Panelists provided insight into the value of collaborations among pharmaceutical industry, academic institutions, and NGO organizations, citing the success of such programs such as the Task Force's Mectizan Donation Program, a successful partnership with Merck since 1987.

The audience for the plenary session included CEOs and senior executives of pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies, university officials and scientists, hospital administrators and physicians, investors, economic developers and public policy experts. The session offered an opportunity for the participants to ask questions and interact with the panel. Attendees engaged the panelists in discussion about the future of private sector engagement in global health and the potential for expanding partnerships with small ventures in the bioscience community. Concepts and thinking shared during the plenary set the stage for dialogue throughout the Summit. The Summit theme was “Innovation for a Healthier World…Meeting the Challenge.”

In line with the plenary and theme, the Summit agenda featured a track on Global Health partnerships, with several panels on education of global health leaders, engaging partners, and funding emerging research related to global health.
